Friends, I have to tell you, I NEVER win anything! Since I’ve been committed to the Paleo Lifestyle, I’ve entered contest after contest online hoping to win some goodie to no avail. So you can imagine how ecstatic I was when I heard my number called for the raffle at one of the Nom Nom Paleo cookbook release parties for Food for Humans (now a NY Times bestseller!) last month.
And it wasn’t just any old silly prize, it was a Hamilton-Beach 6-Quart Set ‘n Forget Programmable Slow Cooker! This is a dynamite slow cooker. How do I know you might ask? Well, because I own one! About a year ago, my slow cooker unceremoniously decided to say its good-byes and went kaput. Usually, I have what my husband calls “analysis paralysis” when it comes to buying new appliances. I know I’m going to be stuck with it so I want it to be perfect and because of that, I can take forever to figure out exactly what I want. You should see the spreadsheets I developed when it was time to buy a new refrigerator, rows of features and columns of different stores…ever the accountant after all these years. Finally, my husband was tired of waiting and just picked one!
I turned to the lovely and talented Michelle Tam of Nom Nom Paleo for slow cooker recommendations, she has an entire Shopping Guide on her website devoted to the kitchen tools and gadgets she deems worthy. She has never steered me wrong.
I love everything about this slow cooker. It’s easy to use, large enough for all my needs, it has three temperature settings and a programmable timer. One of the neat features is the lid latches on which makes it very portable so you can take it to potlucks. Whenever I go to a potluck, I always bring a Paleo meat dish so I’m assured at least one protein dish I can eat. Meatballs are a great potluck dish and Diane Sanfilippo — from Balanced Bites — has two of my favorites recipes: The Easy Thanksgiving Meatballs, from her New York Times Bestselling book Practical Paleo, and the Asian Meatballs, from The 21-Day Sugar Detox. Both are definitely crowd pleasers and the slow-cooker set on warm will keep them at the perfect temperature throughout the party!
Slow cookers are an awesome way to have a hot home-cooked meal when you get home from a busy day at work! There’s nothing better than coming home after battling the Silicon Valley traffic to the smell of a delicious dinner ready to eat. You can really get creative with stews and braises.
For expert slow cooking advice, I always turn to my friend Arsy Vartanian over at Rubies & Radishes. Her outstanding cookbook The Paleo Slow Cooker is completely devoted to recipes for slow cooking. You can also check out her site for a ton of great recipes!
So my luck is your luck! I am giving away the Hamilton-Beach 6-Quart Set ‘n Forget Programmable Slow Cooker and a copy of Arsy’s The Paleo Slow Cooker to one of my lucky readers!
